When considering a trailer purchase you need to answer only one question... How much weight will you be towing? We can help you with everything else you need to know and what options you have in selecting the right trailer for you.
Why is this question critical?
- Trailer selection is guided by load weight – a load over 3,000 lbs. necessitates that your trailer has brakes and a brake controller in your vehicle. Also, trailer size, axle and wheel configurations are determined by your max load weight.
- Your safety – We need to make sure you have sufficient braking power and stability.
- Your vehicle’s performance and maintenance costs - If the gross trailer weight (trailer plus load) exceeds your tow vehicle’s specifications, you will likely suffer excessive fuel cost and expensive transmission and/or engine damage. Also, insurance or warranty claims may be denied if you exceed that tow capacity.
- Laws and regulations – Commercial applications may require a CDL license. Also, exceeding weight limits may expose you to fines, penalties and worse, liability.

Where can you get the tow weight information?
Typically, equipment and vehicle dealers can provide you with gross weight information. Or you can get it from manufacturer’s websites in their specification information. For equipment – remember to add the weight of any implements you install or carry with you.
